What's at the Edge of Paris?

Les Cimetière des Chiens

In the early 1900s the Paris City council passed a law forbidding pet owners to toss out their deceased pets with the trash or dump them in the River Seine, meaning animals had to be buried in ‘hygienic graves at least 100 meters from the nearest dwelling’

Thanks to this decision, I was able to pay my last respects to 40 000 Parisian animals today by visiting The Cimetière des Chiens – Cemetery for dogs (and other pets) in Clichy Paris. Many pets have been adorably enshrined with fancy headstones –some decorated with their toys, plaques and inscriptions like
“Trompé par les gens, mais jamais par mon chien”
Rough translation: I’m Deceived by people but never by my dog
I love the names the French give their little friends “Poupoune”, “Fritzi”, “Snoopy”, “Tuesday Bonnet” and “Silver Moon”.
